The NVSA is working to develop parimutuel racing in Nevada. COVID delays hit us over the past year, but we still made progress to getting started. Our racing program will begin around aged horses as we develop breeding operations and the younger divisions. Stakes eligible horses must be born in Nevada. The NVSA will work with regulators and the industry to develop invitationals and specialty races that tend to bring larger purses. The parimutuel interest in Nevada is strong and the ability in Nevada to conduct parimutuel races is growing.
PROJECT ONE - PROOF OF CONCEPT:
Sometimes opportunity drives selection and choices. Pahrump, Nye County Nevada fits into that selection. The Commission and area have been helpful in getting established and beginning our proof of concept facility. Presently we are working on land acquisition and infrastructure considerations, but this has been a public-private partnership in concept and action.
Beginning phases of Project One include:
- Land Acquisition and Infrastructure readiness
- Racing Center development
- Vet Hospital and Rehabilitation Center
- Manure and Water Management System
- Equine Training & Education Center
- Rodeo and Equestrian Training (for the second purpose of racehorses)
- and More
FUTURE RACING DEVELOPMENTS:
The picture above notes cities/towns of interest to the the NVSA. Pahrump, NV, just outside of Las Vegas in rural Nye County will be our proof of concept location. Pahrump provides an agricultural environment to establish the infrastructure of training, education, and horses. Additionally, the location enables timely ship-ins to Las Vegas, once that facility comes online. Timing for Las Vegas is based on many factors including industry consumer support. We are confident that the infrastructure will be established in Pahrump, enabling greater and lasting success of Las Vegas.
Reno, near the capital Carson City and major recreation area Lake Tahoe is a great location for Equine Science Education at the University of Nevada Reno, College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources ("UNR-CABNR"). Additionally, breeding, a racino, training center and other projects are planned for the area. Reno operations are anticipated to be a good collaborator with Cal Expo as operations begin. This project begins after the proof of concept and timing is base on many factors.
Laughlin, Mesquite, Elko and Ely are potential development areas and may be collaborations with UNR-CABNR Agriculture Extension and County Officials.
